There's one thing about Ohio that I love... Okay, maybe there are 34 but there's always something to do here. Many ask what's in Ohio activity-wise when they come in from out of town. There's a lot to do! One of my favorite places in Ohio are the islands. Put-In-Bay is by far the most popular and has the most entertainment and activities. It's a scenic drive from Cleveland, (About an hour and a half) and just past Cedar Point. Getting to Put-In-Bay is half the fun either taking the Miller Ferry or the Jet Express.
There are many great historic homes and museums to visit. Many small cottages that you can rent or purchase. A great place to have a vacation home in Ohio. Right on the water and extremely peaceful. A lot of the island is still natural and undeveloped so it's like you're far away but near everything.
Shopping in town is pleasant and relaxing. If you're into antiques or just novelty items, Put-In-Bay is a great place to browse. Riding through the small streets in your golfcart, you get a great view of everything. You can stop off whenever you like and take a stroll or do some shopping.
Perry's monument established after the war of 1812 was built in 1912. The original tile inside, staircase and elevator are fascinating in itself. There are six slain officers who fought in the battle buried under the rotunda.
When you get to the top, all four sides are an observation deck. The views are spectacular and you can see Canada and all the other islands. The monument soars 314 above the water and it's simply breathtaking. I took most of the pictures here from the observation deck.
Put-In-Bay is a great place for boaters and water lovers. There's tons to do. Parasailing, jet skiing, sailing and fishing. It's family friendly during the day and at night, Put-In-Bay shines. Open bars, live music, restaurants on the water and everything is walkable. Most rent bikes or golf carts to get around town.
Outside of the water activities there is also something for everyone. Gem mining, crystal caves, awesome winerys, rides, go-carts, golf and tons of activities for kids. You can even rent a plane from the island airport for $140 per fifteen minutes and take a tour of the islands from the sky.
There are 400 residents on Put-In-Bay island and in the summer, vacationers and sight seekers come in droves. The island will see around 1,300 people there on the weekends and it's never too crowded. There are so many things to do, it's spread out perfectly.
I encourage you to take a trip to Put-In-Bay if you haven't already. If you have, go back and grab a case of wine to take home, mine for new and exciting gems or take someone who hasn't gone yet. If you need a day to get away, this is one of the best places around.
The views and easiness of Put-In-Bay alone are well worth the trip. You can catch the sunset from almost anywhere on the island. Ohio has great places to visit and spend the day. Whatever your interest, it's here. Stay a day, stay a week. It's affordable and definitely not the norm when it comes to family fun and great nightlife.

Prolly a nice vacation spot. I enjoy The Pine Club... but that would get old if I had it every day.
As with anything in life, if you have it everyday it can become monotonous. I like having a broad range of things to do. It keeps it fresh and exciting...
I think you appreciate things when you don't have them all the time...
I've had people relocate here who have owned oceanfront property (which most of us could only dream of having) and they can't stand the wind, noise and dangerous weather threats. Funny how that works...
