There are two reasons for this post. One is to tell you what women and men really want from my perspective and the other is to save you from wasting an easy $100 on useless, not very creative gifts just to appease the tradition. This is a real estate website, and saving money directly impacts real estate and your future investments. In this economy, I care about your ability to stay ahead of the game and secure a lasting future.
I'm for saving money or at least spending it wisely like paying down debt, home improvements or saving for a down payment. I'm also a fan of romance and creativity. Use some of these tips this year to make your partner really smile, and give your wallet a big hug, not letting go.
How about breakfast in bed with heart shaped fruit and pancakes. A candlelit dinner with wine, and dessert. Serve and make sure you're able to hand feed what you make. Play music you've burned on a CD of your most memorable songs through the years. Collect special photos, tickets from events and any other cherished items adding them to an album including the CD as the most special gift ever.
What bothers your partner? Any projects need finishing? Start there and move on. Surprise your significant other by doing laundry. Use extra fabric softener on the bedding. Detail the house. Turn your master into a hotel suite. Women love when men do things around the house without being asked!
Make a date in the snow. Have a snowball fight, make snow angels or go sledding. Bring hot chocolate and bundle up. If your weather isn't cold, have a picnic at the beach or park. Bring a bottle of wine and rekindle. Bring back forgotten spontaneity and take a break from the mundane. Remember what brought you together to begin with.
Forget throwing money at Hallmark, it means much more when it comes from you. Fold a poster board in half and make a giant card. Write a poem, Draw or paint your relationship using a metaphor. Compose a song, or if you're really talented, write a short chapter book expressing your feelings and highlighting memorable moments.
Make a booklet with IOU coupons. Free back massage, pedicure, dishes, car detailing, or any other chore that the other specializes in. This can get as personal and the more creative the better. You can also bake cookies and use icing to spell out what you plan to do for them both now and later.
Depending on your skills and time, you can make something by hand and ensure it will be remembered for life instead of thrown away in a week. Sort and organize their space with refinished furniture or hardware. Make a decorative hanging jewelry box using a frame, felt, and pins. Hang their jewelry for an instant art display and accessibility.
Yes, it's the inside of an old computer. It's too easy. You can go to a craft store and pick up buttons for the numbers. They even sell the clock for very cheap. If your partner is on the computer a lot, this makes a great gift for the home or office. Make two! Every time they see this while working they will grin and think of you.
Those of us who have dogs know they can be a chore. Ease your partner's schedule by pampering their best furry friend. Give your pet a complete makeover and attach a handmade card to their collar to greet your partner when they come home. They will appreciate the thought behind it and extra initiative you took.
Make a statement in the snow with a full view from the upstairs bedroom window. Add their name or message. After they smile, sit them down and ask them 10 questions you don't know about them. There's always something you don't know about your partner. Get personal and creative.Start some of these projects now and add the money you save to a bill or pay down a credit card. Finance problems often lead to relationship problems. Not only can you impress your significant other this year but you can start taking the necessary steps to financial freedom, home ownership, and a stronger, stress-free relationship. If you think of the many holidays and birthdays in each year, there's thousands of dollars used toward monetary and tangible items. True love and happiness isn't tangible.

Those are fantastic images and really useful advise.
I love the ideas. I think I will try one or two, and maybe save a few.
