Best City Poll (Cast Your Vote)

Many people relocating from all over the Country looking for real estate in the Cleveland Ohio area ask me what the best area of Northeast Ohio is. I of course answer "Every area!" Relocation can be stressful. I always try to break down each City and determine by their needs and lifestyle, which areas would suit them best. As a Realtor, I of course can't just choose one City or community for a prospective buyer. I give general information and statistics as you can see on my Neighborhoods page.

I'm conducting this poll and asking for everyone to participate. I'd like to know your opinions on Cleveland's suburbs, areas, and communities. Maybe you've lived in or visited one or more of the following Cities. Subscribe to this blog, (On the right) or of course add the site to favorites to keep up with the results. Your vote is important! If you love your City, let the world know! Since many of my Website's visitors are from out of the Country or State, this will be a great way for them to determine a possible City based on actual residents/visitors opinions.

Please list your favorite City and feel free to comment on as many additional Cities as you wish. You don't have to give a reason or explanation, but it of course would be helpful. There are many great areas of Northeast Ohio and I want everyone relocating to know about them. Thanks in advance for your vote.

Lakewood, hands down. A scenic, convenient location on Lake Erie, ten minutes from downtown Cleveland, wonderful old houses and mature trees in a parklike setting, friendly people, and the best community spirit you'll find anywhere.

Hey Cecilla, I see that you have found your way to the Broadview Hts. forum on Cleveland.com. Broadview Hts is a wonderful city to live in and rast a family. If by chance you happen to read over the forum, you'll find a some residents who would not argee with me. Please don't take these comments as the view of the city. Thanks and good luck

I must say, that was a beautiful description of Lakewood. =)

Every City was welcomed on Cleveland.com. Everyone has their own opinions and views. We certainly have choices. If the residents of a certain City are upset about something, they should speak their minds, and try to bring positive change. I certainly won't harbor any bad feelings towards Broadview Hts. Thanks for posting and your vote was counted!

Avon,
Fresh environment, newer schools rated excellent, 20 minutes from downtown.Convenient shopping, low taxes, friendly neighbors,non-existant crime rate, peace of mind. Don't be fooled by those who mention suburbs closer to Cleveland. Most are cramped, dirty, and crowded. You'll deal with city services that are overburdened and unresponsive.

I suppose I'm a little biased, but I would say that the number one city is Independence. I lived there for 26 years, and hope to go back some day. It is the perfect location, not too far east or west, close to major highways, great schools, relatively low property taxes, and lots of industry. The only problem I ran into is that I couldn't afford to buy any of the houses. But for those who can, I highly recommend it!

Those who want an old fashioned Cleveland neighbordhood, Old Brooklyn is the way to go.

Rocky River is absolutely perfect for people of all ages. It combines beautiful neighborhood character, safety, recreation on the lakeftront and metroparks, quality schools, and convenience to downtown off I-90.

While many people consider Westlake and Bay Village, Rocky River neighborhoods and homes have the most charm, the schools are better, there is unique shopping and dining along Detroit Road, and it is a little more convenient to go downtown, or the airport via Rocky River Drive. Rocky River is simply unparalleled.

I'm from Avon Lake, and I hope to move to Rocky River one day.

Chagrin Falls was added and counted! There are definitely more than a few Cities that aren't on the list. I tried to stay within 30 minutes of Downtown. I'm more than happy to add any additional City. (As long as it's not an hour or more away.) Thanks for the vote!

Ms Sherrard, Cleveland Heights wins my vote, hands down. The reasons:

- Excellent city services
- Good police force
- Well-maintained infastructure
- A recreation center unrivaled by any suburb in Cleveland, with 2 indoor ice skating rinks
- Cain Park, and its 2 beautiful outdoor amphitheaters, and the Cain Park Arts Festival
- Denison Park and pool
- Cumberland Park and pool
- Rich, diverse housing stock
- Strong sense of community
- 15 minutes from downtown Cleveland
- Adjacent to University Circle, Severance Hall, and the Cleveland Museum of Art (5 minute drive or 10 minute walk)
- Close to Little Italy
- Well-served by public transportation and close to the University Circle rapid station
- Close to the Cleveland Clinic
- Rich in history and tradition

There are lots of photos and information at http://clevelandheights.com

Thanks for posting this, Cecilia. :-)

I am a traveler, I have worked all over north east ohio and the truth is the best depends on what you want...Strongsville is really diverse in its residential offerings, shoppings of course and good schools but I personnally have to choose Westlake. Lakewood is more of a transient community with way too much rental property. brook park is way too middle income and no decent shopping and entertainment Maple heights and garfeild are alright but well the bottom line is westlake rules!

I was raised in Strongsville, lived out of state for 8 years and recently relocated back to Ohio to Westpark. We love our home and neighborhood and we know all the people on our street! We can walk to many different stores, can ride a bike in the Metroparks or to work, and could walk to the Rapid station to catch a train to shop at Tower City, see a concert at the Q, or attend a Browns game! We also have easy access to the freeway and great health care close by. Westpark is affordable and friendly and we couldn't be more happy! We also have a brand new school less than 2 miles from our home! Our family is satisfied- yours could be too!

The are of West Park and Kamms Corner. North of the Lorain Rd. Munn area is full of charm. Older style homes that have character. Centrally located and near all shopping and retail areas. I'd have to say for living in Cleveland itself, West Park is a very wonderful place to be - My family has been living here for many years.

Bay village near the lake. Huntington beach is spectacular. The tree lined streets of this older community are quite appealing. Many of the homes are higher in price closer to the lake. You can still get into Bay village if your price range is lower. We purchased a home that needed some work. It was somewhat outdated but after a solid year of smaller projects, the home is custom to our needs. I love the schools and my neighbors.

Cleveland Heights is the best city in the Greater Cleveland area. It boasts some of the most beautiful homes, excellent public and private schools, diverse demographic and is culturally above and municipality in the area. With Coventry and the Public Parks that host high-prfile concerts in summer you can't ask for more. The property tax is a little high though. But I guess they put the money to good use.

Little Italy. You get the benefit of a safe neighborhood and Cleveland taxes. I'm hoping that the development of the University Circle area will improve other surrounding neighborhoods such as Wade Park. With gas prices going nowhere but up the proximity to everything is another big plus. The downside is that homes rarely go up for sale here, and the number of rentals is quite high.

Lakewood Ohio is by far the best place to live. Close to the lake, downtown, highways, shopping, parks, good schools. Real estate in Lakewood is abundant. If you're looking to rent or own, there's something for everyone and there's beautiful condos on lake erie. There are many different streets that are unique. Middleburg Heights by far is the best city! I have lived here for six years and plan on buying a home here. It is a great place to raise a family due to they have a great school system (Berea Schools)and are surrounded by other great cities such as Strongsville and Parma but not too far from downtown Cleveland. You do not see too many homes for sale due to residents are happy with their surroundings. The recreation center and playground center is newer and offers everything imaginable. Too much to name. The community offers alot of activities and metroparks have bike and walking trails. The city is clean and safe. This city is great when taking a look at the whole picture. Alot of the cities mentioned you cannot say that about them. If you are new to the area or looking for a change check it out because it has alot to offer especially for kids and families.

My vote goes to Shaker Heights. The housing stock is unmatched in the area, which is what initially drew me to the area (along with great transit to downtown). It has an East Cost feel to it, similar to other areas in which I lived prior to relocating to Cleveland from NYC. Schools are perennial top performers along with a diverse and engaged student body. The taxes may be high, but what you get in return is more than worth it.

Old Brooklyn--where the homes are affordable, taxes low, people are friendly, down to earth and your actually allowed to be yourself. Easy access to all freeways, 5 minutes to downtown and the heart of Cleveland. Did I mention the local shopping and small shops? Easy to zip in&out! Free rec center and brookside(metroparks)!! Considering the economy of NE ohio today; many families are in need of affordable, decent homes the kind that this community has. If Cleveland schools could get there act together this neighborhood of Cleveland would be unbeatable!!!
I lived there for five years and then moved to the burbs. I want to move back to Old Brooklyn because I sorely miss the community!!

Another vote for Lakewood. If you are not snobby about having to live in a McMansion and having the most obvious big box chains right around the corner from your development, take a second look at a real city with unique charm.

Lakewood gives you sidewalks and interesting things to see as you use them. Lakewood residents actually walk. There is a wonderful front porch culture where neighbors gather to visit informally. The people are lovely. The school system is building and the residents are supporting the efforts. If you do not care for a large and diverse school system, there are private school choices nearby.

Great library, myriad local businesses to support, trendy eateries, the Beck Center, the lakefront, many parks, awesome activities and programs for small children. The list goes on and on.

One poster maligned inner ring suburbs as "dirty and cramped". This is a person who has obviously not spent enough time actually living in one -- or who has a preference for cookie cutter housing and splashy but unimaginative retail sprawl. My neighborhood is not "dirty"!

Lakewood is perfect. It is right next to Rocky River, which hosts unique dining and shopping and also right next to Cleveland. No other school system can compete with Lakewood-almost all the buildings are currently being replaced! Lakewood is the nicest most unique city out there.
